Burn-in your new effe-02
Burn-in, also known as break-in, is essential for all new hi-fi equipments, including the effe-02. It should be used for 48-72 hours to achieve optimal performance. This process allows new electronic components to settle, resulting in a more balanced and natural sound.
Power Source Recommendations & System Synergy
To allow audiophiles the freedom to optimize their system power, effe-02 and effe-03 do not include a power supply unit in the package.
Both units operate on 5.0V DC via USB-C (effe-02 requires min. 0.6A; effe-03 requires min. 1.0A). However, the degree to which a high-end power source upgrades your sound depends heavily on your connection architecture:
1. When Connecting via Copper Ethernet (e.g., Streamer RJ45 Port)
-
Impact of LPS: Very Significant.
-
Why: When your streamer is connected via a copper Ethernet cable, any electrical noise, ground currents, or ripple from a substandard power source on the effe unit can bleed across the physical copper link directly into your streamer's network receiver circuit.
-
Recommendation: We strongly recommend pairing your effe device with a high-quality Linear Power Supply (LPS) or a dedicated audiophile low-noise USB power source. Avoid standard computer USB ports or noisy switching phone chargers, as they will compromise the noise-isolation benefits.
2. When Connecting via SFP Optical Fiber (e.g., Streamer SFP Port / Eversolo Series)
-
Impact of LPS: Minor / Minimal.
-
Why: Because the fiber optic cable achieves 100% galvanic isolation, physical electrical noise and ground potentials are completely blocked from crossing over to your streamer. Even if a simpler power source is used on the effe side, electrical noise cannot travel across the light path into your optical-equipped DAC or streamer.
-
Recommendation: While a linear power supply still ensures the absolute lowest internal clock jitter and cleanest local processing inside the effe unit, the sonic gains are much more subtle when running pure optical fiber. A clean, reliable 5V USB power source or a standard adapter is entirely adequate for stellar performance in a pure fiber setup.
SFP Module Selection & Optical Compatibility
Both the effe-02 and effe-03 feature standard SFP slots, giving you complete freedom to choose your preferred optical transceivers. However, optical transceiver performance and compatibility play an essential role in maintaining a clean, low-jitter network link.
1. Recommended Transceiver Architecture: Single-Mode
-
Why Single-Mode? We strongly suggest using Single-Mode SFP transceivers and matching Single-Mode LC-LC fiber cables.
-
Superior Transmission Clarity: Single-mode optical fiber utilizes a narrower core that eliminates modal dispersion over short and long runs alike, resulting in cleaner pulse edges, lower timing jitter, and optimal signal integrity for high-resolution audio streaming.
2. Our Recommended Standard: Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL
To ensure 100% plug-and-play reliability without compatibility headaches, we explicitly recommend and certify the Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL SFP transceiver module.
-
Tested & Certified: Fully tested with effe-02, effe-03, and flagship SFP-equipped streamers (such as the Eversolo DMP series).
-
Industrial-Grade Low Noise: Built with ultra-low electrical noise characteristics and high thermal stability to prevent high-frequency interference.
-
Direct Availability: To simplify your setup, genuine Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL modules are available directly for purchase on our official website, individually or bundled with our custom pre-tested LC-LC single-mode fiber cables.
3. Transceiver Quantity Guide for Setup
To ensure you have everything needed before installation, please note the required module count for your configuration:
-
Connecting directly to an SFP-equipped Streamer (e.g., Eversolo):
-
Requires 2x SFP Transceivers: Streamers do not typically ship with SFP modules included. You will need one module for the effe unit and one module for the streamer's SFP slot.
-
-
Point-to-Point Isolation Link (effe-02 to effe-02 or effe-03):
-
Requires 2x SFP Transceivers: One module installed on the sending unit and one on the receiving unit.
-

Ethernet Port and SFP Port
Port Function & Connection Scenarios
The physical ports on your effe-02 and effe-03 units serve flexible roles depending on how you configure your local network. Both the Ethernet (RJ45) and SFP ports can handle different parts of the chain based on three primary system conditions:
1. Connecting to the Internet Router
-
Ethernet Port: Used as an input to receive noisy digital data and standard copper network traffic straight from your home router or main network switch.
-
SFP Port: Used as an upstream link if your router or switch is equipped with an SFP output, converting the router's electrical signal into clean optical light right at the source.
2. Connecting to Another effe-02 / effe-03 (Ethernet-to-Fiber Isolator)
-
Ethernet Port: Can act as either the input side (receiving data from a router) or the output side (delivering purified network data to a downstream device after optical conversion).
-
SFP Port: Used with a matching SFP transceiver and an LC-LC fiber cable to bridge two effe units together over long distances, achieving 100% galvanic isolation between the noisy network environment and your listening room.
3. Connecting to a Streamer, DAC, or Smart TV
-
Ethernet Port: Used on the output side to feed a clean, jitter-reduced copper RJ45 signal directly into standard audio streamers, network bridges, or media players.
-
SFP Port: Used to connect directly into the native optical SFP input of high-end streamers (such as the Eversolo DMP series), completely bypassing copper wiring at the playback end.
